Bridal Shower Chic

Just an afternoon of shopping post bridal shower. It was the first one I'd ever been to, and felt worlds away from where I am in my life! I'm lucky if I can make dinner for myself every night, much less plan a future and a household. But there's nothing quite like an afternoon in the presence of some wonderful women celebrating milestone life events.

This dress is actually my own, from Anthropologie (one of the designer collaborations for Made in Kind), but has always been a favorite. I love the print, and there is a perfect balance between the flow of the skirt and the length. The back cutout is an added bonus as well; I'm a sucker for an interesting back detail.

Dress Updates

I love to sew, especially when it involves taking an item I already have (or found for cheap) and turning it into something better. When I found this dress in the Anthropologie basement, it was $9.95 and my size..... But with a high neckline and HUGE sleeves. First putting it on felt something like wearing a hot pink table cloth. I took it home, hoping that I could come up with a way to transform it. After playing around on my dress form, this is what I came up with! I removed the sleeves, and as it is lace, was able to leave a raw edge without fear of fraying. With the neckline, I wanted to sass it up a bit by cutting a super deep V. The end result is better than I expected, and makes the dress into an easy, wearable, but still saucy summer alternative.
